Post Re: Limited Web RAGS Player...
We are up to version 0.10

We now have support for sound effects and video back in the system.

Some video and audio formats that are supported in the desktop version may not be supported in the web version. Additionally, the web version supports .mp4 videos and I believe the desktop version does not support that type. I think it may depend on the codecs loaded on your system.

Enjoy.

Thanks,
Steve

Here's another sample game...this is my incomplete vampire game...I blame Barb for it's incompleteness.

This game will work with the web player and you should get all the appropriate soundeffects, etc...

Let me know if you have any troubles.

Thanks,
Steve

Version 0.11 is now up.

With this version, Live Timers have been implemented and greatly improved in fact. Live timers are working much better with the new web version of RAGS then the desktop version in fact.

I believe everything should be working now except for layered images and of course the enhanced selection mode supported by the desktop player.

Please let me know of any issues you find with the web player.

Thanks,
Steve

You will need to unzip the file and use the XML file.

I'm not sure if you're doing that or not. If you're trying to load the xml file and still receive that error, please let me know.

Thanks,
Steve

Okay, I'm now pretty sure that my crashes are caused by bad memory usage. I threw a bunch of swap space on my system and the player runs fine until the swap is full. The usage on that swap starts at 0 and increases by several meg per action indefinitely (I got it up to about 350 MB to play through Amnesia). If the swap gets full, the system hangs.

Does the player cache any information with each action? If so, might you be able to solve this by setting a cache limit? If not, and if you're not seeing increasing memory usage on a Silverlight system, then I assume this is a memory leak with the Moonlight prerelease and I'll just have to find a lot of swap space until they fix it.

A couple other minor bugs I noticed when playing through:
Looks like buttons sometimes fail to un-grey after a dialog box (e.g., asking a question)
There are a few missing line breaks in text, e.g. between room introduction and the list of who/what is in the room.

Not only do I not see an animation, I don't see a pause button! I wonder if anything else is missing?... I was going to ask if there was any save-game functionality (important if I'm going to be running out of memory)... I've attached a pic of my player during Amnesia for comparison (and showing both minor bugs!).

The click to continue button is the pause button actually.

If you play a game with a pause command in it, that button will enable and in theory display an animation.

My test game amnesia does not contain a pause I believe.

I ran several games on my windows system and did not see any memory leakage. The games pushed internet explorer to around 70 mb usage, but that was it. It rose and shrank slightly from there.

Thanks,
Steve

I guess as a short term fix for you...once I add the ability to save your progress you'll be able to save often and refresh your browser to continue where you left off when you load your saved game...not the best solution, but it may allow you to continue playing.

Thanks,
Steve

That would be much appreciated, thanks! (And just plain handy for long games anyway...)

Okay, got a couple of much-easier-to-diagnose crashes to report, both involving sound:

I get a SIGILL and an unhandled exception when a game tries to play a WMA sound. The result is a browser crash. Console debug output is attached as ffmoonlightwmadbg.txt.

When a game tries to play a WAV sound, I get a SIGABRT and a loong bunch of debug output in the console that doesn't mean much to me. The result is a browser crash. Console debug output is attached as ffmoonlightwavdbg.txt.

For comparison , ffmoonlightmp3dbg.txt is the console debug output when an MP3 sound is played. This works fine.

On the first try for playing sound, Moonlight downloaded an MS codec pack. Also, mplayer runs WMA, WAV, and MP3 files fine on my system.

HTH. Just give a shout if you need any more info.

Thanks!
